Five-pronged mechanism for growth of apparel industry

The Integrated Garment Industry Federation has set up a five-pronged mechanism to take the Sri Lankan garment industry to long-term growth in the face of the challenges posed by the Corona epidemic.

All stakeholders in the industry have put this mechanism together, and it is primarily aimed at creating a safe workplace environment.

Under this, all garment workers will be given priority to be vaccinated and about 90% has already been administered at least one dose of the COVID vaccine.

In addition, it is planned to increase the value-added in the apparel sector from 55 percent to 62 percent.

This mechanism includes continuing to seek a European GSP Plus tariff facility and maximizing the benefits of the UK GSP Plus facility.

The Joint Apparel Industry Federation hopes to expand market access through bilateral agreements, as well as to establish Sri Lanka as a hub for global apparel manufacturing operations.
